A YC Hatha yoga class follows a sequence which integrates postures, breath work and relaxation as its basic elements.
By learning to teach Hatha yoga you will become a link to the centuries-old tradition of masters and teachers who brought this wonderful ancient Indian practice to our modern world.
This classical approach gives you the essential theoretical and practical foundation. This creates a wonderful base to practice upon. Our YC Hatha Yoga courses upgrade the traditional asana practice with modern anatomical and structural principles to benefit your body, mind and spirit.
If you want a systematic practice, then YC Iyengar Yoga is for you. This style pays exact attention to your body alignment, and insists on precision and attention to detail.
The training method will include working individually, but also in groups, in pairs or groups of three. Our Iyengar approach to yoga is based upon the teachings of BKS Iyengar and complemented by modern empirical insights and the open-mindedness which defines the YC Institute.
The structure of an ashtanga class:
- Dedication to Patanjali.
- Surya Namaskar A and B.
- Primary series with vinyasas. Adjustments by the teacher.
- Final sequence.
The classes are physically demanding and create inner heat. The ujjayi breath links one movement to the next.
Originally Pattabhi Jois, disciple of Krishnamacharya, spread this wonderful style to India and then the Western world.
While most ashtanga teachers have learned by doing we provide a true teacher training environment. We emphasize the practice while putting attention on how to teach it. Our trainees learn to be articulate, to safely adjust the students and to avoid injury.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
This system is a fusion of different yoga styles. The poses run together like a dance. Creativity, breath and vinyasas are an important link within the class. With time and practice, practitioners can dip into some of the more challenging sequences.
Upon graduation our teachers possess:
- A solid structure of the sessions
- A deep understanding of each element of a class
- An underlying focus on the connective breath
- The creativity to develop a wide array of sequences
- The respect and empathy for each student
This practice helps to rejuvenate the muscles. This style is characterized by its contribution to general well-being, especially for its help to restore areas of the body where more attention is required. It works directly on the parasympathetic nervous system that is responsible for producing and restoring body energy, in addition to inviting the body to calm and relax.
In our training course the trainees learn how to integrate the postures with specific props in order to evoke optimum restorative benefits to their students.
Meditation and Mindfulness
Meditation is a practice that is intended to still our inner world and create harmony within. The relaxation and reduction of stress that are claimed to result from meditation are thought to have prophylactic health benefits.
